Barrett Brown
Head Pastor
I was born in 1964 in Seattle, Washington. Not long after, my parents moved north to Burlington, Washington and 6 years later settled on a farm in the foothills of Mount Baker in Bellingham. It was there in the mountains, witnessing the beauty of God’s creation and the countless verses and chapters from the Bible that my mom had us memorize that I received my first introduction to our amazing Creator and Savior, Jesus Christ.
However, not having a godly role model from my earthly father I became very jaded and cynical toward our Heavenly Father. Thinking my only way to please God was strictly “performance based,” I was tired of trying and turned my back on following Christ in my early teens. Ten years later after living in 3 states, attending 5 colleges and universities, experiencing 1 failed marriage engagement, and living with chronic stomach ulcers because of stress, guilt and alcohol abuse, my “pleasure seeking” lifestyle left me broken and empty. Laying on the floor in the basement of my mother’s house in Kennewick, Washington, I grabbed a shotgun to end my life. It was there that God’s sweet Spirit reminded me of the words my mom had told me as a child “No matter what you’ve done Jesus loves you.” It was there I threw down the gun and called on the Lord Jesus to save me and heal my broken heart!!
As I began to fall in love with Jesus, I felt his calling on my life to teach and serve. I left the year I accepted Jesus to a Baptist bible college in Florida where I received my Pastoral/Theology degree. After a short time of service helping plant a church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, I returned to eastern Washington. There for a few months I was an associate pastor of a church in West Richland, Washington.
I met my beautiful wife Shannon in 1991 in Kennewick and we were married in October of 1992. God blessed us with 2 wonderful children; Caleb born in 1998 and Kaylee born in 2002. In 1996, God led us to Calvary Chapel in Kennewick. I served in many areas including but not limited to Calvary Chapel’s bible college extension, discipleship, new believers, and Sunday school classes. God’s financial provision has come through having me work for a professional photography studio for five years and now running my own photography business for the last 16 years.
In January of 2019, I received a call from my pastor, Steve Whinery, at Calvary Chapel that there was a need for a pastor at the Calvary Chapel in Pendleton, Oregon. I gladly and humbly accepted God’s call!
This the story of God’s amazing grace and mercy on my life! A man undeserving of God’s kindness but enjoying the benefits of it daily! I’m excited to see what God will do in and through my life and the lives of His people here at Calvary Chapel Pendleton!
